Jemaa El Fnaa
As old as Marrakech itself, the legendary Jemaa El Fnaa square was for centuries both the town’s site for public executions, and the place where locals enjoyed a never-ending carnival of acrobats, story-tellers, musicians, and other fascinating characters. Luckily enough, nowadays it only retains its most benign character!
The Koutoubia is the largest and most ancient mosque in Marrakech. Located near Jemaa El Fnaa square, its minaret is the symbol of the city.
Saved from dereliction by Yves St Laurent, who purchased and restored them to their former splendor, the Majorelle gardens have become one of the most popular sites in Marrakech, with their display of vibrant colors, fountains, and an important botanical collection.
Take some time out of the souq to enjoy a traditional medina garden revived for the 21st century. The palatial grounds comprise both an exotic and a traditional Islamic garden, where water resources are used according to the Arabs’ millenary wisdom.
Gueliz is the heart of the modern part of Marrakech. Its main avenues are Mohammed VI and Mohammed V. This area is where many foreigners choose to live in Marrakech.
This area houses international clothing shops like Zara and H&M, as well as modern restaurants and cafés.
